In my first post I discussed the importance of Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance in this whole project... but for those who might have an interest, I should really have included a link (this is one of the services I hope to offer as part of this project - and "open book" (see what I did there?) approach to not just executing, but planning, the whole undertaking.
So - the seminal work -

There is another book, though, that has inspired me, in a practical sense, and while it is about a motorcycle ride, the gestalt is almost entirely opposite to ZATAOOM: Against The Clock. by Ron Ayres. Loaned to me by a friend from Frederick who has become, probably the closest thing I have had to a "motorcycle guru", it details one man's quest to shatetr the record for endurance riding in the continental United States.
Ron Ayres rode a BMW cycle through every single one of the contiguous United States in less than his seven day goal with so much time to spare, he decided to try and add Alaska, and almost made it. The book is a compelling story of not just one man's determination and endurance, but the value of teamwork and a support system in achieving such a feat. I will be depending on several of his lists, not the least of which is his "endurance pack list" which has influenced my own motorcycle "go bags".

So, if anybody has any interest in following along for the ride, these are two good books to get you started.
I will share some other influences, both written and in video, as we go along. But don't expect any organization - or any linear narrative. That is definitely NOT the point of this :-)
Have a great day!!!
